“How can my health and fitness serve God and His kingdom?”

— Faithful Fitness, Day 1

A note from Coach Alex

Who does this journey belong to?

Bring your goals with you. Today we begin by asking who they serve, and how your everyday choices can reflect the commitment you make to God.

Hey there. Coach Alex here.

Welcome to Day 1. Before we talk about what you eat, how you train, or how much progress you want to make, we need to talk about who this journey belongs to.

You probably have a goal already. Maybe you want more strength, more energy, or a different number on the scale. Maybe you want to feel comfortable in your own skin again. Bring that goal with you. Today, we’re going to ask what it is serving.

In Matthew 6:24, Jesus says we cannot serve two masters. He is speaking directly about serving God and wealth. In today’s devotional, we bring that question of allegiance into our health and fitness: Who is actually in charge here?

The book asks, ‘How can my health and fitness serve God and His kingdom?’ Sit with that for a moment. Your answer gives your goals a purpose beyond the mirror, the leaderboard, or somebody else’s approval.

You might want strength to carry out your responsibilities. You might want to be more present with your family. You might need to receive rest so you can approach tomorrow with patience. The details will look different from one person to the next.

And hear me on this: you do not have to reach a certain weight or level of fitness before God can use you. Your body’s limitations do not disqualify you from loving people or following Jesus today. Begin with the body and the life you actually have.

Here’s where this becomes practical. A goal tells you what you want to change. Your purpose helps you decide how to pursue it, what you are willing to give it, and when something else needs your attention.

Let’s say your goal is to get stronger. Ask, ‘What do I want that strength to help me do?’ Maybe you want to stay involved in the work, relationships, and service God has placed in front of you. That purpose can encourage you to practice consistently. It can also help you stop treating every workout like a test of your worth.

Or maybe your goal is more energy. Ask, ‘Who receives my attention when I have it? What responsibility do I want to show up for?’ Then consider one ordinary choice that supports that calling. Perhaps tonight that choice is putting your phone away and giving yourself time to rest.

Wanting to look good or enjoy a workout is not automatically a problem. The honest question is how much authority that desire has gained. Does comparison keep setting the standard? Does a disappointing result change how you treat yourself or the people around you? Is comfort making decisions that you know need prayerful attention?

You do not need a polished answer. Tell God the truth about what you notice. Ask for forgiveness where you need it, wisdom where you are uncertain, and help with the next choice.

Integrity begins to take shape when the purpose you confess and the choices you practice move in the same direction. That is something we return to daily. A commitment to God gives you a place to return when you drift.

Today’s assignment is simple: write a prayer committing your health and fitness to God, and put it where you will see it daily. The Undivided Commitment Guide gives you a little room to reflect and a page you can use as your daily reminder.

Use your own words. Name the part of this journey you have been trying to control. Name the people or responsibilities you hope to serve. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your choices about nourishment, movement, and rest. You can also begin with the prayer in your book.

Here is a short prayer to help you get started. Father, I give You this body and this health and fitness journey. Forgive me where approval, appearance, comfort, or control have taken the lead. Help me care for what You have entrusted to me so I can serve You and love the people You place before me. Holy Spirit, guide my next choice. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Now choose one faithful action for today. Make it specific enough to do. Then choose where your prayer will live: beside the coffee maker, on your desk, or somewhere else you will naturally see it. Read it again tomorrow before you start making decisions.

If sharing the commitment would help, tell a trusted friend or share it with your community. A public post is optional. The commitment matters even when it stays between you and God.

For today, give this journey to God. Write the prayer. Put it where you will see it. Take the next faithful step.

Let’s get after it.

Begin with allegiance

Let your purpose shape your pursuit.

In Matthew 6:24, Jesus speaks directly about serving God and wealth. Day 1 applies that question of allegiance to your health and fitness. What has the greatest authority over your choices?

A goal gives you something to work toward. A God-centered purpose helps you decide how to pursue it, how it fits your responsibilities, and what to do when progress looks different from what you expected.

You do not need to reach a certain weight, appearance, or level of ability before God can use you. Begin with faithful care for the body and life you have today.

Today’s assignment

Write it. Pray it. Keep it visible.

The book asks you to write a prayer committing your health and fitness to God and put it where you will see it daily. The guide helps you turn that commitment into words and one faithful action.

01

Name your goal

Be honest about what you hope will change. Then ask what that goal is serving.

02

Commit the journey to God

Write a personal prayer. Bring your hopes, motives, struggles, and responsibilities before Him.

03

Keep the commitment visible

Place your prayer where you will see it daily. Let it guide one concrete choice today.

Connect your goal to your calling

What could this look like in your life?

These examples can help you begin. Choose language and an action that fit your capacity, responsibilities, and season of life.

I want to get stronger.

A purpose to consider: I want to participate in the work and relationships God has entrusted to me, as my capacity allows.
A faithful action might be: Make room for a realistic movement practice that fits my ability and responsibilities.

I want more energy.

A purpose to consider: I want to bring attention and patience to the people I love.
A faithful action might be: Put my phone away at a chosen time tonight and make room for rest.

I want to change how my body looks.

A purpose to consider: I want to care for my body without letting appearance determine my worth or rule my day.
A faithful action might be: Choose one act of care today, then return my attention to a person or responsibility that needs me.

A prayer to begin

Bring your whole self before God.

Use these words as a starting point, write your own, or begin with the prayer in your book. Keep your prayer somewhere you will naturally see it: beside the coffee maker, on your desk, or by your daily planner.

Write my commitment prayer

Return to the commitment daily.

Read your prayer tomorrow and let it guide a real choice. If you drift, return to God, tell the truth about what happened, and take the next faithful step. Your commitment gives you a place to return.

If sharing would help you follow through, tell a trusted friend or share with your community. A public post is optional; the commitment matters even when it stays between you and God.

An optional next step

Consider the habits behind your goals.

Once you have written your commitment, you may want to take a closer look at your everyday habits. Explore the Faithful Fitness Health and Habits Profile as you consider where to focus next.
